Jack King-Spooner’s Earthbound Set In Scotland
Jack King-Spooner is an indie developer behind well-received, surreal titles such as Sluggish Morss: A Delicate Time in History, Blues for Mittavinda and Will You Ever Return? Now the developer says that he'd like to try something different and, for the first time, has gone to Kickstarter to seek funding for his next project, Beeswing.
Beeswing is a role playing adventure game and takes place in the rural, Scottish village that the game shares its name with. The game is largely autobiographical as Beeswing is where King-Spooner grew up. He explains that it is "a story about the past, about community and childhood, attachment and growing up. Scottish folk tales, morally dubious parables, cloudy anecdotes and more contemporary stories of homelessness and immigration all combine to create a truly dynamic narrative."
The game takes inspiration from Earthbound, To The Moon, Secret of Mana and The Legend of Zelda. The project also uses a wide array of visual styles in order to tell its story, from water colour to claymation, giving it an eclectic appearance. Check out the pitch video above.
King-Spooner is asking for just £2,250 in order to bring Beeswing to life. The campaign has a month to go and already it's nearing the half way funded mark. If you donate as little as £5 you'll be rewarded with an early access, digital copy of the game as well as a bit of the soundtrack. Check out the full list of backer reward tiers at the game's Kickstarter page. Should the crowd-funding campaign be successful, Beeswing will see release in March 2014.
