Well, this doesn't really count as a revelation anymore, we all knew it was coming, but still. We have the official announcement from Tripwire regarding the Killing Floor update. However, that is not to say this is no big deal. Far from it in fact, and there are some rather nice surprises tucked in amongst all the leaked information we already have.

  • All new game type: Objective Mode features story driven gameplay with objectives to complete while battling the zeds!
  • The new map, Steamland, playable in both the new Objective Mode and Wave Mode!
  • Objective Mode added to the Killing Floor SDK, so mappers can now create their own story-based maps.
  • New unlockable event character: Steampunk Mrs. Foster! Unlock here during the event while you can!
  • Additional achievements for the new game mode and new level.
  • Another opportunity to unlock Steampunk Mr. Foster during the event.
  • For everyone who owns Rising Storm (http://store.steampowered.com/app/234510) - the Rising Storm Tommy Gun.
  • All FREE to everyone who owns the game!

That's a rather hefty whack of content there, I think we can all agree. But even that isn't the end of the story. From today, 4th July, the game will be free to play for everyone. Yes, absolutely everyone. All those friends of yours that were uhming and ahing about picking it up, now is the perfect time for you to infect them.

Me? I'll see you there.

The Husk? The Husk has been there for years. I can't even remember a time it wasn't there, except maybe the early days. But I don't remember much from the game's early days. Other than the weapons having other (much more boring) skins back then.

Well they do add new enemies here and there but it is indeed rare. In fact I am not sure, but I think the only new enemy ever added was the Fireball shooting one. I think it is a design/balance choice. The enemies used to lack range, now they have every "element" so to speak. The only thing they could actually still add is some kind of mini-boss that is even harder than Flesh Pounds and such, but again, it is tough due to the way the game is designed with the waves and the question you must always ask: How to fit in a new enemy type?

The gameplay fun comes not from the enemy variety but the gun and map variety and now even a new game mode that can be expanded to cover each map (hopefully!) and indeed, what have the developers actively been adding? More maps and more guns!

Reskins are done for every KF-event, Bobfish. Summer, Halloween, X-Mas. Every time, every year.

Psh. Newbie.

Looks like they've even reskinned some of the enemies too. Not much of a change, granted, but still adds a little variety

My main problem with KF was that there were only a certain amount of enemies in the game, and you'd end up fighting the same ones every single game, offering little variety beyond what each individual map offers. My second biggest issue is that there was only one mode. Why just one "boring" survival mode, when the awesome gunplay and map design could be used for far greater things?

FINALLY, the latter is improved, now with this new mode. I cannot wait to try it out when I return home from the vacation!

Wow this is a pleasant surprise :D

LOVE THE KILLING FLOOR EVENTS, seriously one of the games I never get bored of thanks to the great gameplay and gunplay.

Can't wait to start playing this event, Pixel Judge play sessions ftw :D
