IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad
I grew up playing this game. Well, at least, I grew up playing the previous iteration in the series, the simply-named IL-2 Sturmovik, which was what happened when you took a hardcore flight simulator akin to Microsoft Flight Sim, and then mashed it together with air battles on the Eastern Front. It was grim, painful with hair-tearing difficulty, and also glorious fun. And now the sequel is coming out.
Developed by 1C and 777 Game Studios, it promises to be yet another high-octane dogfighting simulator set within the Eastern Front of the Second World War, although that is admittedly all they are telling us - as the trailer is basically a glut of pre-rendered dogfights and general excitement. Still, I am a-tingle with anticipation over this, and as with all such sequels, wondering if they're going to butcher a classic, or create something even better. If you're confident of the latter though, go pre-order the game here.
