I Kid you not: “Official ‘Accolade’ Trailer”
If games weren't dudebro enough as is, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag's newest trailer is two and a half minutes of cutscene clippings, badass quotes, and CGI. Granted, the "hey, our game is awesome" trailers aren't anything new, but they have never been... well... helpful. Personally, it sort of reminds me of COD players getting a good shot or something to that effect and sucking for the rest of the game because they are too busy trash talking over the mic; the song choice didn't help either. Am I the only one who misses epic choir music over epic battle trailers? No?
Whether or not the money for "accolade" trailers should go towards hiring more bug fixers (hint: it should), the game has been getting good reviews. The pirate aspects are awesome and that style of ship control has been begging to make an appearance in this generation's tech. That said, it's still an Assassin's Creed, which means the combat system is roughly as up to date as the average grandmother's cell phone. I think TotalBiscuit said it best when he said he "absolutely wished it wasn't an Assassin's Creed game," point being that it has so much good, naval combat and pirate goodness at the forefront, but is dragged down by all of the franchise's baggage, be that outdated mechanics or a forced connection to the series' storyline.
