GRID 2 - announced

After a cheeky teaser released last week, Codemasters have officially announced a sequel to 2008's GRID.

In the official trailer for GRID 2 we are shown new locations - Paris and Chicago. GRID 2 hopes to deliver an "expansive career mode" using Codemaster's TrueFeel handling System which hopes to find the "sweetspot between accessibility and simulation and deliver handling that is approachable yet challenging to master".

Clive Moody, Executive Producer, has said “GRID’s back and we’re going to make street, track and road racing exciting again. The core design philosophy for GRID 2 is that we treat the race as a character, not a consequence of simply putting cars on tracks. Everything that goes into the game impacts on that second-to-second, in the moment, blockbuster drama – the feel and personality of the race.

“We’re pushing boundaries once again with what can be accomplished in the genre via new tools, technology and innovations. In single-player, split-screen and online, the next-generation of the EGO Game Technology Platform will power graphics, AI, handling and damage advancements that will immerse players in the racing experience like never before. Like its predecessor, GRID 2 will put the sheer thrill and adrenaline rush of the race at the heart of the experience. It’s what we call Total Race Day Immersion."

GRID 2 boasts a collection of cars from over four decades and will have you racing in locations across 3 continents. Multiplayer will also be a big focus for the developers and will feature their answer to AutoLog - Racenet, which will allow you to compare times etc. with friends and other racers.

GRID 2 is set for release sometime in 2013 but for now enjoy this trailer below:

Codemasters sure is cranking out racing games fast post-GRID.

I'd definitely appreciate it if they take a bit longer to polish and add more content to their games. Dirt 3 had a lot of potential but it just lacked that attention to detail and polish that I was hoping for.

The MP also needs a lot of work, but that is the case for most all racing games.

All that being said, I am excited for GRID 2 but will be waiting for a sale to get it.

After dirt 3 I don't think I would buy anything from codemasters again. it just felt rushed and incomplete, not to mention the devs shutting down the forums and pretty much ignoring everyone.
