Grand Theft Auto 5 Releases, Steals Other Games’ Thunder

Yo jurors! The day finally came. Grand Theft Auto 5 is officially released for PC annnnnnnnd it's good! That's correct, the game is in a solid state at launch! I repeat, AT LAUNCH! Any fears that this would be an unoptimized port to PC akin to GTA IV, Watch_Dogs, etc. with a launch day disaster can be put to rest.

While we're not ready to publish our full review just yet, we spent a few hours throwing all kinds of configurations at the game to see how well it ran. Various AMD CPU's, i5's and i7's? No problem. R9 280, GTX 750 Ti, 860m, GTX 680, GTX 970 and GTX 780 Ti graphics cards? Piece of cake. Single card or SLI? GTA V says bring it on! We were able to run the game with varying settings scaled to the hardware all at 1080p or above with a locked 60fps. This game might even run on my toaster...no promises.

The only issues we ran into were 1) some isolated issues with Rockstar Social Club as the servers were overwhelmed with people trying to play and 2) a hilariously broken benchmark. If you want to play the game, just play the actual game and leave the benchmark program alone for now. It's plagued with bugs and glitches rendering it completely useless on every machine I tried it on. I never even managed to get the benchmark to complete a single run on a single machine. You've been warned, steer clear.

So yeah, a big blockbuster game had a good launch, unlike another major title releasing on the same day which is, as of this writing at launch, completely unplayable.

What say you jurors! Are you ready to take a 60fps journey through Los Santos in first person? Or are you going to be the first person to pass up on this wild ride? Let us know in the comments.

For more news on this and other games, keep tuning in to Pixel Judge station. DJ Judge Kenpo signing off...errr, I mean this news is adjourned.

I'm with Ruby. Was skeptical before release but I decided to pull the trigger a few days prior. So far, I have only had once CTD. Game runs amazing on my laptop and I am actually enjoying the campaign. I find I usually lose interest with GTA campaigns due to monotonous escort missions. However, V offers lots of variety and the characters are awesome (as usual).

Couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.

The game is stellar. It runs fantastically. Even on my pretty average rig. Even with a few settings down to normal/high the game looks soooooooooooo damn good. I've played online every day since Tuesday and I've had only one connection error and that's the only problem I've had with the game so far.

Rockstar have seriously taken their time on this and you can tell. It's polished, keyboard and mouse work great, plenty of graphical options to tweak. The overall online experience has been awesome for me (aside from that one single moment where it timed out, but within a minute I was in a server).

Now, I don't know about you guys at Pixel Judge, but I would love to see a Cop mod just like in GTAIV or a 'Life' mod, as in Altis Life for ARMA 3. Imagine it!!

THIS is how a PC version of a console game should be done!!

Actually, pretty sure I didn't say the launch was perfect. I specifically said it was good...which it clearly is considering it's the third most played game on Steam with 100's of thousands of people playing concurrently. I haven't counted thousands unable to play but I'm sure you can give a metric for that assessment.

Actually, along with thousands of other users, I can't even start the game. So a perfect launch, it is not. I'm sure the game is amazing, if you can launch the fucking game. But tons of us can't.
