Google Buys an Evil Genius

Who here remembers Evil Genius? You know, the strategy game that had you building a variety of evil lairs and taking down Bond-like super spies in your attempts to take over the world? Well, the guy that created it and a number of other games, Demis Hassabis, went on to study Cognitive Neuroscience after leaving the games industry back in 2005, after which he founded DeepMind, a company focused on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
Google has recently purchased that start-up for somewhere between $400-500 million, beating rival company Facebook to a deal. Google then went on to reportedly establish an Ethics board to ensure that the technology they acquired will not be abused - which, considering that DeepMinds creations were capable of learning to play Atari 2600 titles, hopefully will be enough of an impediment to something like Skynet or Shodan coming to power.
