Ghost Recon Online Coming to Steam Early Access

If you're anything like me you read that title and went "What, really?  Didn't that game came out like two years ago?". And it's true, while Ubisoft's Ghost Recon Online made it's initial jump into open beta back in August of 2012 Ubisoft Shanghai has finally made the decision to launch the game via  Steam Early Access. The decision being so that they can iron out any of the issues that arise with moving a game onto the new distribution platform, including the massive swell of players.

“Bringing Ghost Recon Online to Steam has been our goal since the game’s inception,” says Corey Facteau, Producer at Ubisoft. “We took the time necessary to reach a quality level that can go head to head with the top online games available today before releasing on Steam. As the top shooter for gamers who enjoy team gameplay, we have also seen our audience expand to include MOBA fans, who comprise fifty percent of our user base. To ensure a seamless transition to the new platform, we will use the Early Access program to fine tune the Ghost Recon Online experience before unleashing the game to the rest of the world.”

Ghost Recon Online is surprisingly good. It's balanced and doesn't have the worst F2P model in the world. Maybe having it sitting in my Steam library beckoning me in every time I boot my computer will convince me to spend more time with it.

You know, I've never played a Ghost Recon game. It's the one Tom Clancy IP that remains virgin territory for me.

Perhaps 'tis time to rectify that

Hey hey hey, I liked operation metro. Great for unlocking accessories for the weapons.

I actually hope it's decent, I feel lately too much crap is being dumped onto Steam.

Yeah that one map in the subway was possibly worse than Operation Metro from BF3.

Im with mr jenssen, my time with the game consisted of me behind cover shooting enemies camped at the bottom of a walkway blocking my progress. Maps need to be more open to really be a top F2P title

I hope by now they've fixed up the map design. The game can be fun at times, but the ridiculously mundane, chokepointy map design ruins it every time.
