GC 2012: DayZ Construction Tools and Console Release

Dean Hall, project lead on zom-sim (zombie simulator) DayZ has revealed some information regarding the game's highly anticipated stand-alone release. Hall says the game will feature a construction tool that will allow players to create their own bases. He goes on to say that they will probably be underground bases that will be accessed via portals and that his vision for this tool is that players will have to dig out the space, pour the concrete and, if s**t really hit's the fan, the structures may even collapse!

The stand-alone will also feature a revamped Chernarus that features an increased number of buildings that can be entered and explored as well as "entirely new areas".

In other DayZ Gamescom news, regarding a possible console release, Mr Hall says:

"You're not going to put it on the consoles if you're only going to sell 100,000 units or something like that," he said. "DayZ will be driven by its PC development and it will innovative on that. And, once we're at a point, we'll take it and do a Mac version, 360 and PS3."

When asked about any discussions had with console developers his reply was:

"We're meeting with them here."

Pretty exciting stuff for PC and console gamers alike!

I'd love it if this game came to the 360 :)

@BlueJohn if done right it can be not a bad thing but hoarding things has to bring some more challenges to it.

I love and hate this game/mod at the same time. The biggest problem is that people aren't playing the game any more but rather playing the system.

My DayZ experience has been pretty awful so I'm not really interested in playing it. Understand why it's so popular though and my bad experience playing it has just been awful luck most of the time. The first server I ever joined looked hopeful because I spawned next to a dead dude with an M4 and other stuff. However, several minutes later a hacker cometh and that was that. The next two I joined was just incredibly shit luck because I spawned both times as a group of other players were literally walking along and, even though I had nothing of value and clearly just spawned, both killed me anyway. My other two runs had some really fun moments but both were ruined by the servers suddenly lagging, which seems a common nuisance, and that caused teleporting zombies to murder me unfortunately. But a standalone would be better I'm sure and, considering it's still in Alpha (or they'd be no excuse for some of the nonsense) , I can't complain awfully much. Would definitely buy it if the price isn't set too particularly high.
