Gabe Newell Addresses The Internet Over Mod Rage

Yo jurors! As we talked about recently here and here, Valve recently made a change to the Steam platform that allows the people who choose to work on mod creation to also choose whether or not they want compensation for the mods they create.

Predictably, a large number of people were offended at the idea and demanded that Steam reverse the decision and enforce a policy that Steam workshop submitted mods must to be free for the masses regardless of what the mod creator wants. In a nutshell, the notion is if you don't want to just give it away then either don't make it or don't put it on Steam.

Having received about 3,500 messages about this Enter Gabe Newell, CEO of Valve, who spent a few hours in a coffeshop answering questions on Reddit regarding why this system was put in place, what former precedents set this in motion, what the ultimate aim is, etc. It's a lot to read through so here are some screen captures of a small number of the questions he answered to give you an idea before you go wading into the Reddit waters.

I'm with Gabe. All I see is a poorly implemented, broken system with masses of potential.

Give it a few years and y'all will love it
