Free 2 StarCraft 2
Dustin Browder has suggested that free to play may well be the future for StarCraft 2. Speaking on a panel at the Valencia eSports Congress, Mister Browder indicated that Blizzard are "looking at free to play as an option for the multiplayer". However, he pointed out that they were unsure, precisely, what kind of model they would employ for monetisation. Adding "We don't know how we would monetise it. While it might be good fun for me to play against someone with only half the units available to them, that's not going to be an enjoyable experience for them."
Or would it?
StarCraft is a series that has long attracted the more challenge oriented amongst us. I'm sure there are several players who would be happy to roll up their sleeves and make the "challenge accepted" pose, before going on to wage a very real, albeit digital, David versus Goliath type war against a superior foe. And that's not the only way it could be done of course. Matchmaking to find only people with equivalent power levels, even if taking into account x high level units versus y low level, for example. But that's all conjecture on my part. Only time will tell what actually comes of it. In the meantime, what does everyone else think?
