Football Manager 14 Gets the Axe, No the Other One

Fans of Football management games, not the American football, but the everywhere else football have found themselves devoid of their niche series after EA decided to pull the plug on the franchise. After 12 years of annual Fifa Manager games and EA decided to cut the series off. Gee, if only they were that passionate about axing their other annual franchises... Actually they wouldn't have any games to release. My obvious jokes aside, The Fifa Manager Blog posted this:
"The football manager genre at this level of sophistication is highly specialized and primarily played in two countries (England and Germany) in which – on top of everything – one game has practically dominated the market in recent years. The niche market and general trend toward online and mobile games were also contributing factors. Moreover, FM had reached a crossroads at which a new engine and/or corresponding online technology would be the only way to give the series a boost. When all these factors were evaluated, it led us to the decision to blow the final whistle."
While you could say that Soccer/Football manager was just too specialized to be able to sell at all, the fact is that Fifa Manager has had a game released every year since 2001. There are quite clearly people playing if it's had that much time and money put behind it. But, I should look at this to be a positive. EA has made its first baby steps towards removing yearly franchises. If I lived in an ideal world, EA would go on to give to axe to its other series, and then go on to make entirely new ones. And Jimi Hendrix would still be alive. So no, I don't think this necessarily means that EAs going to finally just put money into new games and win all of our hearts back.
