Final Fantasy XIV's First Expansion Looms
Previously, we'd brought you information about Final Fantasy XIV's next expansion, Heavensward, with a note about the upcoming fan fests and subsequent information that was to follow. Finally, with the Tokyo Fan Fest out of the way, we know a little bit more about how the world of Eorzea is expanding.
Players and companies will have the option of creating personal airships, outside of the public transport ones that are currently available. If you don't like the thought of sailing through the clouds on a ship, flying mounts are being added, and, once again, the level cap is being raised from 50 to 60 overall. There is an entirely new race being added, the Au'Ra, a race of human/reptilian hybrids, and three new jobs, the Dark Knight, an obvious melee fighter, the Machinist, a ranged fighter that uses guns and other complex weaponry to dispatch foes, and then lastly, the Astrologian, a healer that uses cards and luck of the draw to better her capability to harm foes or heal allies.
There's also a new endgame raid, titled “Alexander,” which is going to be at least as difficult as the Coils of Bahamut raid, loads of new areas and story content, and plenty of new monsters and beast tribes to slaughter indiscriminately. You can get this nice expansion in a collector's edition package, which comes with a flying dragon statue, art book, case, digital items, and video disc. The main music for Heavensward will be done by none other than the legendary Nobuo Uematsu, and the art book with be done by series mainstay Yoshitaka Amano. Will this live up to the advertising as Final Fantasy XIV 3.0? We shall know this spring, when Heavensward releases.
