Fallout 4 Announcement Trailer

It seems like everyone is drinking the Kool Aid for Fallout 4 right now and who can blame them – the nuclear flash in the trailer was pretty bright afterall. First things first though – we have a release date of November 2015, still no specific day but such is the nature of nuclear apocalypse.

Just like the other modern Fallout trailers this one starts with a close-up on a piece of quasi-50's technology, this time a television and song that's eerily similar to the ones we've heard previously as well as other familiar Fallout sights like Mr Gutsy and other familiar robots, ghouls. Official wordy-type information is thin on the ground but we can see a number of things in the trailer:

  • Vault 111: We see the wooded entrance to Vault 111, one of the massive underground nuclear war survival communities that've appeared in every Fallout game to date. Curiously there's a Brotherhood Of Steel soldier guarding the entrance as people are entering.
  • Mutated wilflife: We see a lone Deathclaw slinking across the evening landscape. The silhouette of a possible Mirelurk and a Brahmin loaded with supplies.
  • Dog companion: The trailer shows a dog, which is later identified as a vault dweller's companion when he says “Let's go pal.” at the end. Hilariously the texture work stretches and distorts as the dog moves around – watch the back leg as it checks out the bowl.
  • Brotherhood Of Steel Armour: A partially constructed set of BoS armour can be seen in a roadside garage along with a minigun under a tarp.
  • A city: Rumour has it that Vault 111 is situated in Boston. Between the shots of the wildlife we get to see a city skyline with tall buildings (though it's hard to tell how high they actually are), a beach, a galleon-like ship beached atop a huge building and what looks like the golden roof of a mosque which could all point towards Boston. A brief flash of lightning also seems to reveal a statue of Paul Revere (or at least very close to the real one) in Boston. Another small sign on a building says “Swatters eastern” which would also seem to point towards an east-coast city.

We also see a bunch of potentially large but as yet unexplained details such as a giant airship flying over the rooftops of a city, and twin-rotor helicopters. It looks like the Brotherhood Of Steel will be playing a big part in this new entry in the series.

We'll have more details for you as they become available, stay tuned.

Has anyone seen the game? The trailer shows fuck all of what it will look like when you're playing it. We haven't seen the scope of the map, we haven't seen draw distance, we haven't seen GAMEPLAY. A compressed YouTube video is nothing to go by at all.

You guys bitching about how nice/ugly it looks is pretty juvenile, given we've only seen ONE in-engine trailer which is who knows how old. The game will be shown at E3, if I'm not mistaken.

Now, to add fuel to the fire by commenting on the graphics of those screens:

I think it looks great. If that's the actual skybox then, nice work Bethesda. Lighting looks really nice. It doesn't even look like a Fallout game.

Who else does this and is called lazy? Besides TW3 which just came out, what other games had huge expansive worlds jammed pack full of content, quests, caves/buildings etc? The only games I can think come close are GTA and Just Cause 2. None of which have same amount of content or buildings that you can enter. Significant downgrade over Skyrim? Based on what? We saw two minutes of footage and from the landscape shots, the cities look bigger then ever before.

The scope of Bethesda games are always massive and thats what people love. Just because they're a big developer doesn't mean it needs bleeding edge graphics. And common, they aren't bad. You're exaggerating.

My point is, the game looks bad period. Worse still, it's a significant downgrade over Skyrim. Worst of all, why does Bethesda always get a free pass on this, but everyone else is called lazy?

Seriously? If you're that strung up over the model of a dog, go load up a benchmark like Valley and just stare at that all day. The game will be great, not everything needs to be bleeding edge with 1,000,000 polgyons for each strand of hair.

I've spent hundreds of hours across Fallout 3 and NV and as much as the graphics sucked (yes NV looked like ASS for its time), they were still amazing games.

Do I disagree with you? No, the dog does look pretty bad for a Next Gen 2015 game. But I really don't care. The world just needs to be huge with tones of content.

I don't care about how it looks. I spent 1500+ words talking about how the world and the story are the important aspects of the Fallout experience.

Yes, but you're missing the point.

The dog looks like a pile of jizz rags

Also, those twin rotor craft are called a Vertibird, and it's been a staple of the series since the second game. Have you even played Fallout WskOsc?

Small Criticism: that's not a BoS soldier, it's a US Heavy Armour trooper. Have research standards become a bit lax since my departure?

I don't want mind blowing graphics. I just want them to look like more than a bunch of jizz rags thrown into a blender. If Fallout 3 had looked like this, it would still have been shitty
