Fallout 3 Going GFWL-less
Anyone who's worked with, played a game using, or even heard of Games For Windows Live, knows how much of a gigantic pain in the ass it is. Thankfully, Microsoft recently announced that it is going Games For Windows Lifeless and shutting down the service. This is a bittersweet situation if there ever was one, for there will be no more games tainted with it, but at the same time, games that currently use it will be unplayable when it goes down, provided no developer intervention. Thankfully, according to NeoGAF, a recent update for Fallout 3 makes it one of the few former GFWL games that will still be playable once GFWL goes down for good.
Or at least that’s how it seems. Blue News are reporting that installing the setup still installs GFWL when it’s first launched but uninstalling it will make Fallout 3 stop working. Apparently it skips the sign in and such so hopefully the game can still be played without a connection. Thankfully many games such as Bioshock 2, Batman Arkham City and Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 2 have been updated to not use GFWL anymore, so the same is probably to happen with Fallout 3. Eventually.
