EA CEO Resigns

By Bobfish18-03-2013

It seems the situation at EA is growing ever more dire by the day. Hot on the heels of...you know what, I don't even need to say. There's been so much coverage of EA's multitude of mistakes we all know them by rote. And now John Riccitiello will be leaving effective March 30th. In a public address their board chairman, Larry Probst, had the following to say:

"The Board will immediately initiate a search and both internal and external candidates will be considered for the CEO position. Our business is built on more than a dozen powerful, globally recognized brands. We are clear leaders in the fastest growing category in games – mobile – and we are positioned to lead on the next generation of consoles. Most importantly we have deep reserves of talent – new faces and industry veterans who form the core of EA's leadership."

This is all looking extremely grim indeed. It will be interesting, in a perverse way, to see what, if anything, can be done at this stage. Feel free to leave your thoughts below, though I ask you at least remain civil. Whatever you may think of the company, remember that there are still many people facing the very real possibility of being unable to provide for their families out of all this.

Good Riddance. Battlefield series, Crysis series, MOH series, Dead Space series, all suffered under this mans reign. They have all gotten worse not better.

People can say what they want about him, but he did a lot of good things for EA and for gamers, at least when he came on as CEO. I remember all the changes announced when he did. He cancelled a bunch of games as he said they were too low quality due to being rushed, as at the time they were really just rushing out games faster than Activision does lol.

Didn't expect this, good on him for resigning though. It acknowledges people's concerns and the controversy.

Well, looking at how much hate Bobby Kotick gets, it doesn't look like a reason for resign. So yeah, unexpected, even knowing the circumstances.

That was unexpected? Did the hate from the public finally get to him?
