E3: In Space No-one Can Hear You Rage

So Alien Fear, that game no-one seemed to know existed until it changed its name to Alien Rage. It sure came out and showed its stuff at E3 eh? And a curious showing to. Early footage in the video (above) suggests a multiplayer experience, what with things like Blammo and scoring extra points for headshots. Then the closing sequence clearly shows it to be single player. More of an arcade type shooter then, which might turn away some, whilst driving others into an obsessive rage as they doggedly persist in trying to beat the existing high score.

I see what you did there.

It looks decent enough, though it's difficult to really judge from so little. The apparent corridor shooter aspect is something that simply cannot be overlooked in this day and age. However, it still seems clear the game is in early stages of development, so we may see larger environments materialise as time moves on. If not, sorry to say, but being so restrictive is only going to work to their detriment. On the other hand, it does look like a lot of fun. You, dear reader, will have to decide for yourself. What do you think? Leave your thoughts in the box below.

Copying other games isn't a bad thing as long as it is done well. I personally enjoy sequels as much as new ip's/mechanics.

Is that really a problem, though? Will this game be an unoriginal piece of repeating crap or an eclectic masterpiece, muahahaha! I'm not really one for (essentially) on rails shooters, but the gunplay looks very satisfying. I like that high rate of fire, and I enjoyed the the points-chasing of Bulletstorm.

Hmm, that's a good point actually. I didn't think of that. You know, the more I look, the more parallels I see with other franchises. Getting something of an EVE vibe at times. The helmet is reminiscent of Spartan armour, the suit could be a modified nanosuit, with extra appendages like the Centurions (love that cartoon) leaping dude looks like one of the invisible ninjas from fear, second image looks like a Warhammer Space Marine...so many influences. Maybe that's the problem. It's a mish mash of everything without any real individuality

Ah, now I see it. I'm also getting an Omega vibe from the screenshots.

Think more Mass Effect 2, especially the early sections on the Lazarus station and the first planet. All the mechs. The big clunky thing at the end end looks akin to an Ymir...if it was crossed with a Ceph.

Mass Call of Crystorm Gears?

I'm not seeing the Mass Effect you guys are talking about. I do see a whole lot of Bulletstorm, though.

Wait, he's bald?

This game both has a bald, armored space marine (something that some site will decry for not putting in a fat lesbian heroine) AND no multiplayer gimmicks. I'm shocked!

Gears of Mass Effect? In first person?
