Diablo- a Turn-Based DOS Game?

So anyone who doesn't know what Diablo is has probably stumbled onto the wrong website, but in case you're sure you should be here and don't still know - Diablo is one of the founding fathers of the action RPG movement. It went on to spawn two sequels, but it has been revealed that it could have been something completely different. In an interview with PCGamesN, David Brevik - former co-founder of Blizzard North - let a few secrets spill from behind the game's development, saying that 'Diablo, originally, was a single-player, turn-based DOS game that evolved into real-time action roleplaying.' The game's multiplayer aspect was something of an afterthought, with Brevik saying that 'we made up Battle.net six months before the end of [development on] Diablo 1... the idea of it came six months before the launch, so we went back and we made Diablo multiplayer.'

While it's not particularly exciting stuff, it is always interesting to get a look into the history of these breakout hits that could have been very different. If you know of any others let us know in the comments.
