Deus Ex Revision Now on Steam

Classic cyberpunk RPG Deus Ex has been well-lauded by many as one of the finest games of all time. With an engaging, creative open world that responds and allows for player freedom, it's easy to see why people love Deus Ex so much. However, newcomers to the 1999 classic may be put off by the frankly ugly art that has not aged well, especially if they came from the fantastic Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Enter Caustic Creative, and their vision for an expanded, updated version of Deus Ex. Originally just a mod lurking on the far corners of ModDB, today, with Square Enix and Eidos-Montreal's blessing, Deus Ex: Revision has been released on Steam for free. Offering Direct 3D 9 rendering, higher quality textures, a new soundtrack inspired by and based off of the original, and a redesign of some game areas, for those looking for an excuse to get into Deus Ex, there's never been a better time.

It is a bit puzzling as to why Square Enix and Eidos-Montreal themselves haven't released an updated version of Warren Spector's sprawling game, and are instead looking to mod teams to help them out. Then again, Neotokyo, another mod for Deus Ex seems to have enjoyed some relative success via the platform. Regardless, if you, by chance, don't own the game, the original Deus Ex is having an 80% "sneak sale" to celebrate the release of the new mod, so there truly is no excuse for not owning this classic.
