Dark Age of Camelot Has A Spiritual Successor

By Mokman06-04-2013

In a world of huge, billion-dollar MMOs, you'd think there wouldn't be space for one that's crowdfunded. Well, you may be proved wrong, depending on how well this new Kickstarter for Camelot Unchained does. Credentials? Well, it's made by City State Entertainment, essentially the guy behind Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online. It's set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world. What else do you want?

There's a trailer which establishes the background and setting, but as usual, tells us pretty much nothing of the gameplay. However, skimming through the Kickstarter page we come to a few important points about this game. Firstly, it's entirely based on PvP, dealing with a tri-faction war that will manifest in different ways. Second, classes will be different depending on the faction, thus leaving more options open to everybody. Third, it will be subscription-based (at least until the inevitable switch to F2P when things go bad), although the pricing will be "less than the current accepted norm for MMORPGs", giving it hope yet.

Altogether, they need $2 million to develop this game. They've got $865,000 after two days. I daresay this dream may soon become reality.
