Ceterum Censeo Carthaginem Esse Delendam
Carthage, once the proud center of the Carthaginian Empire, was little more than a smoldering ash pile after the Romans ransacked it in 146BC. Yet, history remembers the city and the mighty Empire it once represented well, and as such it is no surprise that we find its colossal struggle with an emerging superpower in the form of Rome at the very center of Total War: Rome II.
Having finally confirmed, to no great surprise, Carthage as a playable faction in their next game, The Creative Assembly has now released a video showing of their approach to this monumental war and how they hope to encapsulate the sheer brutality and scale of Ancient warfare.
Trying to rebuild Carthage as historically accurate as The Creative Assembly can – which probably won’t satisfy a history nerd like me, but then again, I’m just sad in that way – the player will also be able to fight across the battlefields of the ancient world with up to 40 units, a great deal more than in previous Total War installments. Of course the tactical map will help but to truly keep track of that many units, a little bit of skill will probably be needed.
Next up you might ask? Well, we will go away from the shinning lights of Rome, the buzzing markets of Carthage and into the Germanic and Frankish woods to visit those that have been unjustly branded as Barbarians. Legions of Varus – the Teutoburg Forests awaits you eagerly.

There will always be people like the ones that made the Europa Barbarorum for the first game. Geeks will be satisfied!
