Call of China
Call of Duty Online, a Chinese based "freemium" game has gone into Alpha stages. Servers are now live, allowing people to play the game, though the proposed microtransaction model has yet to be implemented. For those unfamiliar with the game, it was announced by Activision last year, and is currently planned to remain solely as a Chinese endeavour. There's a precedent for such games showing significant returns in the Eastern world, with Activision's partner in this affair, Tencent, already having had great success with its own game Cross Fire. If Call of Duty is to show the same kinds of success, it could open the door for a much closer relationship between Western developers and China, a country which is currently woefully underexposed in my opinion. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
