Call Back the Modders and the Mappers

In a surprising turn of events Treyarch just announced that Call of Duty Black Ops 3 will support modding and mapping tools. This is something that the community has been asking for forever and they finally listened and are bringing it back along with dedicated servers. The tools are still in development and will see the light of day approximately in March 2016 in the form of closed alpha. Here is what’s planned:

  • You will be able to create Maps & Game Modes and more!
  • We will include Unranked Dedicated Server Files with the tools so you can run servers with modded content anywhere you choose.
  • We will provide an Unranked Server Browser so you can easily find and join servers with modded content.
  • Closed Alpha target date: March 2016

So far Treyarch are pushing all the right buttons but I still have a feeling in the back of my mind that this is too good to be true. Though Treyarch were always the ones who tried to please the community the most from all the CoD developers, especially during the days when they were “the other guys” that were working on the franchise. But these days they are the top dogs and probably due to no small part of all the effort they put in to please the customers by trying to provide good service, listen and act on the feedback and innovate on the games as much as they could by staying true to what Call of Duty stands for.

Are you happy to hear this? Did this news nudge you to take the plunge and get Black Ops 3? Or do you think the whole Call of Duty franchise is rotten to the core and Activision can burn in hell?
