Betrayal and Taxes

The battle of Teutoburg Forest was a pretty bloody one. If you own Rome 2: Total War then you likely already know that. You might have experienced the Hollywood-ified version of it through the playable Historical Battle within the game.

Embedded above is a new video from Creative Assembly, where they've creatively assembled a bunch of historical experts talking about the battle in question, its origin and the consequences. Why? Hell if I know, no new content is shown off. But it still is an entertaining watch. It's a good story too, ripe with large armies, clever use of tactics, betrayal and blood. Check it out.

It's really too bad Rome 2's campaign didn't utilize the ambush mechanics to a better degree; each battle usually turn out to be the same "select your entire army and march it into your enemy's army" sort of affair. Of course, the competitive multiplayer campaign can alleviate that to some degree, but that's because you're playing against a human, and not the game.
