BELOW, a new title from Capybara Games boasting the tagline “Explore. Survive. Discover.” has a new trailer available for the watching. The trailer is minimalist in nature, slowly showcasing the game’s watercolor-esque art design against simple, classical music. There are few indicators as to what kind of game BELOW will be from the trailer. While there’s plenty of simplistic art showcasing, (and minimalism is extremely pleasing to the eye), the gameplay footage is quite sparse. For a new release, this is to be expected, but it’s still a little disheartening. Art isn’t enough to make it ahead as an indie game anymore; exciting, innovative gameplay needs to be blended with that in order to make it work.

In any case, there simply isn’t enough content in this video to pass judgment on what the game will be like. It’s finally acknowledged that the game is going to be available for both the Xbox One and Steam, which is an interesting combination of choices. It leaves one to wonder if the game is going to remain simple enough to be your run of the mill Steam indie fare, or if it’ll take advantage of the new and improved graphics capabilities of the Xbox One. The music was pretty nice, but it’s only a small fraction of what could be available on the game.
