Behind the CONTRAST
With the release date so close upon us, Compulsion have given us a tantalising tease of the development process for their upcoming shadowplay platformer CONTRAST. It reminds me a lot of what Spiders, another Focus studio, did with Mars: War Logs actually, and is just as fascinating. It seems they took the idea of shadows as the lkeaping off point, rather than adding it on later as a gimmick. It was always the core theme they wanted to explore. So they started with that and made everything else fit around it, rather than the other way around.
The thing that really surpised me is that the game will actually contain a number of fully 3D environments, thus allowing you a lot more freedom to position lighting than initially anticipated. Something they did a good job of keeping under wraps up to this point. By this point, it's abundantly clear that this is a game that will be sticking with me for a long time. But what about everyone else?
The game is currently available for pre-order on Steam at a 25% discount off an already criminally low price, making it cost less than most new films on DVD, nevermind games. If all that isn't enough to win you over, just think of poor little Didi. Won't you please think of the children?!
