Become a Reggae Legend, Mon
Oded Sharon decided to take his love of Monkey Island and reggae music, and combine them to make the first reggae adventure game. In order to do this, he teamed up with Corey and Lori Cole of Quest for Glory and took to Kickstarter. The Kickstarter project is called Bolt Riley. Here is some information as to what the game is about, as taken from the Kickstarter page:
"You play as Bolt Riley, a poor boy from Trenchtown, Jamaica, on his pathway to stardom. Bolt is struggling to survive and has to deal with a gang of Rude Boys. You go through a journey of self-discovery, of love, friendship, and inspiration, where you are introduced to Reggae music; you have to form your band, get inspiration, write and produce your songs and then perform them. The story consists of three parts each focusing on a different aspect of Bolt Riley's passage into becoming a Reggae legend. This is the true story of the underdog who breaks out and becomes a worldwide sensation."
This is a strange Kickstarter, as the game was under development for a year before the previous, unnamed publisher went bankrupt. So he has turned to crowdfunding to see if he can finish it. There is still coding to finish, voice actors to hire, and get some class reggae musicians to create the soundtrack. The game itself will be episodic, and three chapters are planned. Those who pay the top tier will even get a week with Oded, in Tel Aviv.
However, with just 12 days left things are not looking good. The project has only raised $33,779 of the $120,000 needed. What is not helping now is the amount of adventure games that are on Kickstarter, so it is a hard market, unless you got a killer idea. It sounds promising, but just not promising enough to get it funded.
