Emperor be praised! there is a new space based RTS on the way, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada.

Tindalos Interactive and Focus Home Interactive are the devs and producers blessed with undertaking this task, and they have just released some details of the upcoming game:

“Battlefleet Gothic: Armada, offers deep management of every ship composing the player's fleet, both during and between battles. From the fastest frigates to the gigantic, miles-long battleships, the player will customize all aspects of his ships: weaponry, defense and support sub-systems, etc. each customization affecting the very performances of the ship and the special abilities available during battle. From battle to battle, the admirals and crew of surviving ships will gain experience and promotions, improving the battle-readiness of the ships for future, bigger and more dangerous battles.”

Fans of the Warhammer 40K series have been seeing many more games lately, based on their favourite IP. But Battlefleet Gothic: Armada, is the first one to cover spaced combat in this grim, war torn future.

The “Gothic Sector” is the location for the game, and covers approximately eight million light years cubed. It is home to many planets and countless billions of people. The Gothic Sector is a small section of the Segmentum Ultima, which itself only covers one fifth of the Imperium.

However due to Gothics proximity to the Eye of Terror it serves as an important buffer between the Imperium of Man and the forces of Chaos.

The Battlefleet you command will consist of ships miles long, and often centuries old. They are responsible for defending the Gothic Sector, from the many enemies of the Imperium, be they alien such as Ork or Elder, or demonic, such as Chaos fleets.

The Eye of Terror is a place of madness and evil, where the fabric of reality is weakened, it is a refuge of traitors and demons, and the place where the Chaos fleets launch their attacks on the Imperium of Man.

Tindalos have mentioned “Abaddon the Despoiler” leader of the Chaos fleets, this coupled with the setting for the game, can only mean one things, the “Gothic War”. This war covers a massive invasion by Abaddons fleets into the Gothic sector, in an attempt to control of seize six powerful alien artefacts defended by the Black Fortresses. With control of the mysterious artefacts he would have the power to destroy them imperium.

Tindalos Interactive have given themselves a difficult task here, there will be high expectations on the game, and fans will highly critical of any deviation from the source material. Also with less than glorious results with their previous two games: Stellar Impact, and Etherium. Tindalos have a lot riding result of Battlefleet Gothic.

In their favour however is the fact that despite problems with Stellar Impact and Etherium, Tindalos did get certain important aspects of those games right, namely: innovative ideas, good strategy, and space battleships. And they definitely know how to do space battleships right!

So all that remains now is to wait, and pray, and maybe this will be the game to put Gothic on the map, and Tindalos centre stage, for legendary space battles. You can check out the rest of the screenshots below.

Ahh, this is the one that I thought was Dreadnought. Both look really damned good.
