Awakening the Kickstarter

By Bobfish05-02-2013

A Kickstarter has been launched for a game titled Project Awakened, by Phosphor Game Studios. With 29 days to go they've already racked up and impressive $35,000 of the $500,000 they're asking for. Not bad for a single days work eh? So what's all the fuss about? Quite a lot actually. Boasting Unreal 4 visuals (though the current demo trailer is running Unreal 3 alone is enough to get the attention of most people, especially considering how impressive the aforementioned Unreal 3 footage looks already. But fear not, that's not the only thing on offer, good though it is, that's just the tip of the iceberg. According to their pledge, the game will consist of:

  • Create the video game character of your dreams
  • Play how you want in an immersive story
  • A game world that responds to your every move
  • Scores of abilities and weapons that modify each other
  • Seemingly limitless outfit and gear customization options
  • Built with breathtaking graphics tech in Unreal Engine 4
  • (Stretch Goal) The perfect Action Adventure Modding tool kit
  • (Stretch Goal) Multiplayer supporting a wide range of playstyles
  • Modular (not class or skilltree) a-la-carte ability system
  • Incredibly customizable character visualization
  • Characters that are as unique as the player who created them

Phosphor themselves have displayed an almost arrogant degree of confidence, with funding options as high as $10k. But considering how detailed the listing is (it would take far, far longer for me to explain it all than for you to click through and read it yourself) it's not really all that surprising. 'Tis is a very bold claim though, and hardly the first time we've ever seen someone make it before. It's the sort of thing that comes around every few years, especially with the arrival of a new generation of games consoles. But this is a PC project by a PC dev team, so who knows? Maybe they'll finally be the ones to pull it off. I remain skeptical, but will certainly be keeping an eye on this one. Join us below to offer your own thoughts on the matter.
