Audio in Your Video Game

More details emerged March 11 about why the PC version of Titanfall is so huge; 48GB , in comparison to its Xbox One counterpart, which is only 17GB. Apparently, it's all in the audio. According to Respawn's lead engineer, Richard Baker, the game's audio files are included in uncompressed form so that the game will perform better on lower-end machines. Titanfall's minimum PC specifications are on the light side:

• OS: Windows Vista SP2 64-bit / Windows 7 SP1 64-bit / Windows 8 64-bit
• CPU: AMD Athlon X2 2.8GHz / Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz
• RAM: At least 4 GB
• HARD DRIVE: At least 50GB of free space
• VIDEO: AMD Radeon HD 4770 with 512MB RAM or better / Nvidia GeForce 8800GT with 512MB RAM or better
• DirectX: DirectX 11
• INPUT: Keyboard and mouse, Microsoft Gamepad
• ONLINE CONNECTION REQUIREMENTS: 512kbps down and 384kbps up or faster Internet connection

While it's good to know that the game has been optimized for lower-end machines, it's a little disappointing that very little, if any, of the mammoth download size is due to graphical improvements for the PC over the console version.
