AoE II HD Details Revealed
The Age of Empires 2 HD Re-release has had some more details announced. In a FAQ on their blog, the devs have revealed a number of changes to the classic - including the inability to play a game over a LAN (instead using a new matchmaking system through Steam). Other topics mentioned are a lack of cross-version multiplayer, and the need to buy the game again if you're wanting to play in glorious HD. However, all of these seem like a small price to pay for a complete HD re-release that's mechanically a perfect copy of version 1.0c of the original, doesn't have the hated Games for Windows Live, and with full Steam Workshop support.
It's available for pre-purchase now on Steam (and for an extra $10 you can grab Age of Empires 3 as well). If you're sitting on the fence, maybe Leigh's review of the original version will sway your decision.
