Fairy tales have become American McGee and Spicy Horse's go to source of inspiration. First there was Alice (not once but twice and soon maybe even three times) and then there was Red Riding Hood. Each of these fairy tale outings were explored with McGee and Spicy Horse's hallmark of a dark, macabre fantasy twist.

Now McGee and Spicy Horse are doing The Wizard of Oz. With zombies and steampunk. The game features Scarecrow, still hungry for brains, as the game's main undead antagonist. The rest of the game's zombies understandably look much more like scarecrows than traditional corpse-like zombies. I didn't know I wanted this until now.

This new project, OZombie, will get a cross-platform release for PC, Mac, Linux, Tablets and players will be able to play with other players across all other platforms. That said an offline single player mode is presently being worked on in addition to this. McGee has written the following on the subject:

"While I think this sort of [negative reaction to an always online game] ignores the general direction we're heading with entertainment – and I do not think it's necessarily [a] bad thing (there's nuance in my position on this) – we're trying our best to listen and adjust our strategy in response to our customers."

OZombie's development is still in its early stages and it's been revealed that Spicy Horse will either fund this game or another Alice project through Kickstarter. However this depends on the response of the fans. McGee themselves seems to be rooting for Ozombie though:

"The more I think about it – and the more I see/hear feedback from you guys – the more I'm personally leaning towards Oz. There's so much fun stuff to explore, so many interesting characters and locations to discover. Wonderland will also be there, if not today, if not the next project, then perhaps the one after that?"
