A Picket Fence and a PC Release Date

A new trailer for the re-release of GTA 5 for the "next generation" has just hit the virtual streets of Internet City. It showcases some of the cool new features we can expect to see in the game. There are more vehicles, weapons, activities and wild animals, better graphics, "new" foliage, more traffic, enhanced weather effects and so on. Rather vague, and it's the sort of improvements we already expected from the PC version of a game originally made for decade-old systems.

Did you notice how the trailer states, near the end, that the game is "Coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One November 18", with a bastardized "Also coming to PC" thrown in after? Yeah, that's because the game isn't coming out on the PC in November. No, PC gamers aren't good enough for that. What we deserve, is to wait an extra couple of months, until January 27 2015. The release date is official, so why Rockstar didn't bother mentioning the actual date in the trailer is beyond me. Probably because we're all pirates, and we don't really care about when games come out anyway. We just pirate them as soon as they show up in bootleggers' collections in dark alleyways and seedy black market bazaars. Or something.

We're not ALL pirates, Rockstar. Please stop treating us like second class citizens. If you care at all about the PC gaming community, then release your games on par, on time. Otherwise, don't bother releasing them on PC at all. Stop it with this ridiculous middle ground already.

Gta v is one of the biggest games of the last few years so I have faith that they will see this as a huge opportunity to share it properly with pc gamers. Not just an ok port but a game that pc gamers will look at and say fuck me this is incredible.

Don't get me wrong man. I love the GTA franchise. I really do hope you're right, that the game comes out and it's just this kickass port. But their history tells me otherwise. Their ports have never been especially good. And GTA4 was the crown masterpiece of shit. Not only because of the performance (that they never even tried to fix), but also the ridiculous GFWL implementation, that they never bothered removing (even after it became known that GFWL was supposed to go away and tons of devs decided to switch to Steamworks). And also the flood of cheaters on the multiplayer servers, making multiplayer virtually unplayable.

Max Payne 3 was at least a little better, but it's just not the same scope as GTA5. The problem with GTA4 wasn't that it came out in such a bad state, but that the developers showed no interest in improving any of it even slightly. All that the few patches they actually released did, was screw up for the modding scene.

I don't KNOW that they're not putting something extra for the PC, but I look at their history and I find it hard to imagine that they've just suddenly turned around on a dime and decided "hey those PC guys are actually kinda cool afterall".

Innocent until proven guilty? Sure. But it just so happens that Rockstar have been proven guilty so many times now, it's not funny anymore.

But hey, if the game comes out and it turns out to be a kickass port, then I'll be the first to buy the game, and I'll probably be one of the happiest cunts around. But until that happens, color me skeptical. Like, with several buckets of paint.

They've been working on 3 different versions remember. They obviously don't want to get shit off pc gamers especially after gta 4. So at least take some comfort in the knowledge that they're given it a few more months attention. Like I said, how do you know they're not putting in something extra for pc?

Ruby, it doesn't have anything to do with quality. What they can't do in one year, they can't do in one year and two months.

I understand completely, that's why I said the community has the privilege, not the right, of knowing what's going on. But to be quite frank, I think the quality of the product has already been determined. It will most likely be good and I think this delay is nothing more then squeezing out as much money as they can.

I don't want to be one of those gamers who just bitches about delays like you mentioned, but I can't help but feel we're getting short end of the stick... again.

If they would prove me wrong, I'd gladly eat my words. I don't know if you guys remember, but during the development of RDR, they had these catalog sort of videos. Showing off what they're doing, mods and features. It didn't come to PC but I would greatly appreciate if R* would do something like this because I have very little reason to trust them.

I'm with Ruby on this one. It's another classic example of gamer entitlement. Can't do right for doing wrong

It's not that I'm in love with them, it's just that so many people are too quick to bash a company without fully knowing what's going on. Literally 2 minutes ago I read a quote from rockstar regarding the pc delay and shock horror they said they're delaying it slightly to ensure its the best they can make it on pc. If it released the same time as xbox one and ps4 and it ran like shit or whatever pc gamers would be up in arms saying why didn't they work harder on the pc version.. well kids, they are. Don't fucking moan about something being delayed if it means you're getting a quality product

Question, why are you defending R* IAmRuby? I don't think im on the same tangent as Jenssen but what's the point in defending a corporation that only cares about money? The community has the privilege of knowing what the hell is going on.

The most likely scenario is that they're just holding it off AGAIN so they can milk consoles even further for maximum profit. It's a business, that's understandable but it doesn't make it right for the consumer nor should we support these practices. It sets a bad precedence for PC gamers. There is no physical reason in delaying the game. Unless there is? Again, we don't know. They don't tell us shit. For that, I will vote with my wallet and get it on sale.

I'm not trying to tell you that you have to do the same or how to vote. I just want to make sure we're all on the same page here.
