A New Kind of F.E.A.R

Just when you thought it was safe to go near the genetically enhanced, batshit insane psychic dead girls who gave birth to twin super soldiers (try saying that five times fast) those equally crazy people at Aeria made another free to play game about one. Alma to be precise. And, you know what, it actually doesn't look half bad.

Now, before everyone starts pissing and moaning about strong single player squeezed out by tacked on mutliplayer and unnecessary cash in, dead franchise and all that jazz. Let me just remind everyone, F.E.A.R had multiplayer right from the beginning. In fact, every game in the franchise has had some kind of online componenet. Unneeded perhaps, that's an arbitrary judgement, but it was always there. So save your judgement until after watching the teaser.

In fact, reserve judgement until we see something longer than sixty seconds. It shows some promise, to me at least. I can see a lot of elements from the earlier entries, back before it went off the rails and lost its focus.

"F.E.A.R. Online will focus on several team combat modes spanning over ten ominous maps packed with grotesque details such as still-twitching bodies hanging from meat hooks and messages smeared in blood. The battle rages between Armacham Technology Corporation (ATC) and the elite F.E.A.R. team. F.E.A.R. 3's unique Soul King mode also makes a return, challenging players to possess enemies for new abilities and collect more fallen souls than their opponents.

The story also continues in cooperative scenarios that detail the terrifying occurrences surrounding the F.E.A.R. team parallel to the events of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. Up to four players can team up and fight for their lives against both hostile Armacham personnel and hideous monsters lurking around every corner."

That all sounds quite promising I must say. Plus, let's not forget, this is going to be a free to play game, so really, we have nothing to lose. Except, if it all pans out, a great deal of our time. Agree, disagree, unsure? Comments below people.

Oddly enough I don't generally do horror games, but Dead Space seemed to be the only exception. I love that game!

FEAR 1 was really unique to me and pretty damn scary too! However, as the franchise moved on to FEAR 2 and 3 it just got more generic and less scary, and this is coming from someone who scares easily when it comes to horror games and movies...

Still can't complete Dead Space due to it being too scary for me :P

I see a lot more influences, at least in the art style, to the first three, which is definitely a good thing in my books. How it will work in practice is going to be interesting. Will they include Reflexes? Will everyone get them? Will it be only at set times?

Could work, and I do have a lot of time for Aeria, so I'll be keeping an eye on this one

This looks just like a combination of all the previous games mashed together. Even the pics remind me of previous games.

F.3.A.R's online component was actually pretty good. Certainly the best part of the game.

The four player co-op caught my eye

Generic shooter mmo ftw.

And whats wrong with "Fear Online"? There is FEAR Combat and retail FEAR that have Multiplayer.

I literally don't know what to think here.

That was my first reaction. But past experience with Aeria is comforting
