10 Things Ubi Want to Tell You About Blacklist

Avatar
By breadbitten13-07-2013

Ubisoft really want you to be hyped up about their 2013 line-up, if the near avalanche of info coming down the pipe on a near daily basis is an indication. The company's own, and fabulously titled, Ubiblog just upped a rather hefty "preview" titled 'Ten Tidbits from Three Hours of Splinter Cell Blacklist', replete with dated verbiage that only your aging-but-still-wants-to-be-hip uncle would use such as "mad skills", "hardcore" and "peace out" (shudders).

Anyway, it's a fairly long read and I understand how that might be a daunting task for those of you on the rush (*cough*...lazy) so I'll just highlight the bits that are ACTUALLY worth highlighting...

1. The game will apparently push you more towards the stealthy approach by default, which is highly contradictory to how Ubisoft originally revealed the game all those months ago. It's somewhat reassuring of course that the game will be in line with the rest of the series in that it will encourage the player to try and avoid conflict as much as possible.

2. The game's main hub in between missions, an aircraft called The Paladin, will be upgradable, specifically each room or department of the flying fortress. Upgrading will yield rewards on the field, for example, "Upgrading the Infirmary will make Sam and Briggs' health regenerate faster in single-player and co-op."

3. Some enemies will require a bit of elbow grease to take down as opposed to your usual thugs, "heavily armored" guards will be a bitch to kill head on and a more mediated and stealthier approach is cautioned to subdue them effectively.

4. YOU CAN NOW HIDE BODIES!

Well, this was pretty much all that piqued my interest, feel free to go through the whole post yourselves and rage over the really essential bit of info that I glossed over and bring my Splinter Cell/stealth game credibility into question.

Peace out. (shudders)

This post left out the most important point in my opinion:

11) Perfection

If you’re a particularly oldschool player and feel like you need an extreme challenge, Blacklist introduces Perfectionist Mode. If this mode doesn’t give you nostalgic tingles I don’t know what will. The execute function of mark-and-execute is gone. You’ll still be able to mark and track enemies, but the easy kill isn’t an option. Sam’s goggles can no longer see through walls. You won’t be able to restock your ammo at supply caches. AI is, of course, a lot more intelligent and a lot more lethal. It will be exponentially easier for them to spot or hear you. You’ll need to pay much closer attention to your op suit specs – sacrificing protection for stealth and mobility will be a must. This mode is a Ghost player’s dream. If you crave pure, intense, patient stealth, Perfectionist mode is for you.

When did they do this? Whatever the case, I've grown more interested about the game with the more information released, but this option alone is the best I've heard yet.

@bread: Well, true, it's not quite the same as Snake's shoving them in a locker sort of hiding. But still, it was something that was completely removed from ConViction. So even if they give you the powers of God to reanimate the corpses, posses their minds and have them walk into the sky and burn up in the sun, it's still a feature that was previously there being re-introduced

@Bobfish I don't remember if you could really "hide" bodies in past Splinter Cells (played the first, PT and last-gen version of DA), I remember being able to move them around but never hide them away from patrolling guards.

Okay. I like Ubi. I like their games. Despite how douchey they are. I still like their games. But hiding bodies? Why are you making a big deal about a 'new' feature that YOU FUCKING REMOVED FROM THE SERIES?! Even the bleedin' PSP game had a body hiding mechanic. ConViction was the only one, the ONLY one that didn't. Hey Ubi? GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ARSE!

Still gonna' buy it ¬_¬
