Ubisoft is excited to report that their recent foray into hack n' slash adventure games, The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, has broken 1.5 million registrations for the game's open beta, which is now a couple of weeks old.

If their new trailer is any indication, the game appears to play like a very whimsical and self-aware love letter to Diablo. Being a huge fan of the mashup of humor and fantasy adventure in Fat Princess, this is a niche I feel is very much worth exploring. It seems however that the 'the quest for epic loot' is only part of the game's allure, as you can also build your own dungeon of sorts. The more adventurers who fall in their adventures there, the more rewards for you.

I haven't yet had a chance to play the Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, but it looks exciting enough, and I appreciate what Ubisoft is trying to do with the game. Generally speaking, I'm not a huge fan of freemium games, but there exists the rare game that manages to pull the genre off in a way that is both playable and tasteful.
