0x10c - Leaked Footage of Notch's New Game
Some new leaked footage has emerged of 0x10c, the tentatively upcoming title from Notch, creator of Minecraft and founder of Mojang.
If there is one thing you can say about 0x10c and Notch, it's that they don't shy away from ambitious projects. 0x10c, for those who don't know, is a science fiction space game, hoping to offer players: Fully working computing systems within the game, engineering, landing on planets, space combat, loot and lots of programmable science. Here's how the upcoming title's official site describes the computing aspect:
"Each ship has a generator capable of producing a fixed wattage, and everything you connect to it drains wattage. A cloaking field, for example, might require almost all the power from the generator, forcing you to turn off all computers and dim all lights in order to successfully cloak.
The computer in the game is a fully functioning emulated 16 bit CPU that can be used to control your entire ship, or just to play games on while waiting for a large mining operation to finish.
Full specifications of the CPU will be released shortly, so the more programatically advanced of you can get a head start."
Sounds exciting! The ability to play around with and program real life computer, within a game, is an impressive meta concept to say the least. Imagine the redstone calculators and basic computers people built in Minecraft, then times that complexity by a couple of hundred.
As for the leaked footage itself, similar to a brief video which emerged back in April, you can clearly see the aesthetic style borrows from Minecraft, I think I even spotted an identical texture. This is however most likely placeholder art, but I expect it to retain the same style. And why not? It works well. I do however hope that the game isn't made in Java, as it is terribly unefficient for games such as this and Minecraft, causing massive slowdown and low framerates on even powerful computers. On show in the video is... not a lot. You can however see some nice looking lighting and space lasers, there is also a brief glimpse of a computer and some stair case... things.
I'm excited for 0x10c and, although this new footage doesn't give too much away, it is exciting nonetheless. I just hope that it can offer a fun time for someone like me who, can't program and has no background in science or engineering!

From what is known of the game, its really impressive. (tho i cant shake off the feeling that it looks like minecraft, wich is not a bad thing... but it looks like minecraft...)
