Hands Up for Moon Colonization
Joseph Ybarra - Co-founder of Electronic Arts, and pioneer of the gaming industry (no really, check out the list of stuff he's had a hand in) and his company Joe Got Game have launched a Kickstarter for a new space sim - Shackelton Crater, focused on the potential for future exploration of space, especially the Moon. Shackleton Crater's objective is to build a successful colony with the technology humanity either already has, or are realistically expected to develop by 2030 and beyond. The point, according to the Kickstarter page, is to inspire people to start thinking about exploring space again (and as someone with a life-long enthusiasm for space, I'm wholeheartedly on board!), which the following quote sums up well.
"We want to inspire gamers, thinkers and dreamers who want the moon as badly as we do ... The money pledged to Shackleton Crater is not just funding for a killer game, but a clarion call to society about what we want as human beings. We want more, and we intend to deliver not only the moon to the people of planet Earth, but other frontiers as well."
But enough of my talking, go and have a look at the project yourself, and let us know what you think.
