Dragon Questing To PC For The First Time
Square Enix's monolithic, long running series (that isn't Final Fantasy), Dragon Quest, will be coming to PC for the first time. Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes will be coming to laptops and computers on September 26th. Those of you that can read Japanese can read the official announcement here.
Whilst various entries within the Final Fantasy series have made their way to PC already, this is the first time Dragon Quest has done the same so this news is a pretty big deal for DQ fans. Much like the forthcoming Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Dragon Quest X is an MMORPG so the PC release makes a lot of sense. DQ X is already available on Wii and Wii U albeit this is only in Japan. Here's hoping that this most recent announcement is soon followed by an announcement confirming DQ X's releases in North America and Europe. But, those of you who can read Japanese, can sign up for the PC beta here.
I'm not exactly a Dragon Quest veteran but what little I've played of the series (this mostly being Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skyies on the NDS) has impressed me much more than recent offerings from the Final Fantasy series. Dragon Quest is an RPG series with much more old school stylings and is full of charm. Furthermore the character designs are done by Akira Toriyama, the artist behind the Dragon Ball series (there are few other series that so perfectly encapsulate my childhood). I honestly can't wait to get my grubby little mitts on this PC release.
