Darkest Dungeon Kicking its Way to Steam
Ok guys, serious talk right now. I love roguelikes. I love them more than any other genre in gaming. The constant sense of fear, the overwhelming odds you face and all the while, the complete knowledge that you will likely achieve nothing even after countless hours of play. Darkest Dungeon from Red Hook Studios looks to be one of the most interesting roguelike-like games in development at the moment.
Darkest Dungeon is a "gothic roguelike RPG about the psychological stresses of adventuring" and that alone, makes it sound awesome. The game features an Affliction System, which has you fighting against your heroes personalities. You will be up against paranoia, abusiveness and fear. It very much sounds like the insanity system from Amnesia...and in what world is that ever a bad thing?
Like most roguelikes, Darkest Dungeon features turn based combat, and of course, the genre staples - permadeath and procedural dungeons. The game has a gorgeous art style...and to be perfectly honest, I am in love. I don't even care if I am babbling on like a crazy fanboy anymore.
Darkest Dungeon is currently on Kickstarter, and has already passed its $75k goal. It is planned for release on Steam sometime in January of 2015.
